Freelancing
for Beginners – Get Paid From Your First Client Easily
Are
you looking to land your first paid clients as a freelancer? You have decided
to start freelancing. Either as a side gig or maybe this is going to be your
full-time gig. Either way, the next step is to get your first paying client.
You'd think it must be really hard to get your first paying clients if all this
stuff exists right?
So
if you follow the three tips that are below in this article to outline for you
here you'll not only find your first paying client, but you'll do it without
breaking a sweat.
Tip
number 1:
Tip
number one is to ask. If you don't ask, you don't get it. So your number one
job is to reach out and ask your network, let them know, what it is that you
are up to. Whether it's by email, or phone, whatever it is you need to do, get out
there and let them know how they can work with you. Or how someone they know
can work with you. And what it is that you're doing in your freelancing
business. Unless you are a side hustle, or your freelancing gig would be
frowned upon by your full-time job, don't forget about your past professional
networks as well. Because the thing is, everybody knows people and even if it's
not a direct fit for them, you never know who they might know, and who might be
a good fit. The people in our networks do want to see us succeed. And this is
why it's very important to ask them. They do not mind readers so you do have to
ask.

Tip
number 2:
Tip
number two is to join a directory or an organization. Now, this is one piece of
an overarching strategy that we talk about here called using OPPs or other
people's platforms. So now depending on what it is that you are offering as a
service. There is likely some directory or organization that you can be a part
of that lists you and your contact information for the type of work that it is
you do. So people can reach out if they are looking for something in that
directory and you solve that problem. Now if a directory isn't really something
that is available to you might also consider something like a chamber of
commerce or something like a local networking group. Now the key here is to
make sure that you join a group locally or organization locally where you are
one of a few of what you do. If you are a designer, think about instead joining
an organization, such as a local business lunch networking group, where you
might be one of a handful of designers in a sea of other business owners that
are ripe clients, or ideal clients, for your services. Now joining directories
or organizations or groups that are within your peer group absolutely does have
its merit, but it's not the best type of organization to join if what you're
looking for our clients.

number 3:
Tip
number three is to join or use a platform like Upwork, now this is not a
strategy that we recommend for long term freelancing success. But when you're
getting started this can be a great way to land your first few clients, to
build up your skills, and gain some confidence. You're likely going to not make
quite as much when you're using Upwork as the middle man as you would if you
were finding clients directly. But again, this can be a very easy way to get
your freelancing business off the ground.
